Oxford Picket Fences
no metal or motors or what we affectionally call "stinkpots" on the Cheasapeake Bay are allowed. Not all are 100% seaworthy, which makes for great enjoyment. All the races take place easily visible from the shore on the Oxford "Strand."
Another interesting summer sight is the Oxford Picket Fences. Oxford is know for an unusual onion dome topped fence with a hole in it. The origin is uncertain, but the Oxford Business Association started a tradition three years ago where local artists paint Oxford-style fences, and then one can tour around town to see these works of art. This year there are 18 fences scattered around town. to get the list of the 2011 fences. So there's more to do then just have your wheelchair fit, enjoy crabs, and the water of the Chesapeake Bay in Oxford.
